Direct access to molecular medicine
Molecular medicine encompasses theranostics: targeted radionuclide therapy (also called radioligand therapy RLT and PRRT). It is a form of radiotherapy but unlike conventional radiotherapy it involves a drip, a tablet or a paste to deliver the treament rather than a radiotherapy machine. The treatment is personalised for the patient, often using PETCT scans to confirm eligibility ( for Lu PSMA for prostate cancer and Lu dotatate for NET). Because the treatments use radiation, there are strict radiation precautions and all treatments are given in specialised surroundings.
Rhenium-SCT for non melanoma skin cancer modern approach
Dr Nicola Mulholland is the chief investigator for EPIC Rhenium SCT trial and has introduced this novel form of radiation therapy in the UK working with expert dermatologist Dr Saqib Bashir to provide exemplar care for patients.
